Prescreening is required in our BIO Department. Come in anytime by 5:00pm to prescreen. Subjects must have 2 inches of hair on top of head. 

Study Description:

V1: Informed consent and IE’s will be signed.

V2: Subjects report to ECRL having their hair washed 24 hours prior. Evaluations include expert clinical grading, sebumeter, mini-tewameter, corneometer and pH reading. Questionnaire will also be taken. Subjects will have hair their hair washed by a cosmetologist and blow dry their own hair. Immediate evaluations will be done.

V3-4: Subjects report to ECRL having their hair washed 24 hours prior. Evaluations include expert clinical grading, sebumeter, mini-tewameter, corneometer and pH reading. Questionnaire will also be taken.

Conflicting studies:  All other hair studies

Inclusion Criteria – A subject may be eligible for study participation if all of the following criteria are met:

  • Subject is male between 18 and 50 years of age
  • Subject has mild to moderate flakes present on the scalp;
  • Subject has oily or dry scalp (approx. 50% oily, approx. 50% dry);
  • Subject has self-perceived sensitive skin;
  • Subject washes their hair at least 3x per week
  • Subject uses only shampoo or a 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner product
  • Subject agrees to refrain from washing their hair 24 hours prior to each visit.
  • Subject agrees to have their hair washed by a cosmetologist in the lab.
  • Subject agrees not to introduce any new cosmetic or toiletry products during the study;
  • Subject is dependable and able to follow directions as outlined in the protocol;
  • Subject is willing to participate in all study evaluations;
  • Subject is in generally good health and has a current Panelist Profile Form on file at ECRL;

Exclusion Criteria – A subject is not eligible for study participation if any of the following criteria are met:

  • Subject regularly uses medicated shampoo;
  • Subject regularly uses conditioner;
  • Subject has dandruff
  • Subject is currently using any systemic or topical corticosteroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, antihistamines, or retinoids or any medication that, in the opinion of the Principal Investigator, may influence the outcome of the study;
  • Subject has known allergies to skin treatment products or cosmetics, toiletries, and/or topical drugs;
  • Subject has a history of acute or chronic dermatologic, medical, and/or physical conditions which would preclude application of the test material and/or could influence the outcome of the study;
  • Subject is on another study utilizing the scalp as a test site;
  • Subject exhibits irritation, excessive hair, tattoos, sunburn, rashes, scratches, burn marks, scarring, etc. on the test sites, which might interfere with evaluation of test results;
  • Subject is currently taking certain medications which, in the opinion of the Principal Investigator, may interfere with the study;
  • Subject has a history of skin cancer, or is currently undergoing treatment for active cancer of any kind;
  • Subject has diabetes.
